Pagadian City – Father of modern education, John Dewey’s popular saying goes, “Education is, not a preparation for life; education is life itself” holds true to 25 yr. old Joycell Varquez , a member of Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit Auxiliary (CAA) based at 5th IB’s Command Post, Bravo Company in Ditulan, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur .

Varquez is one of the 1,000 scholars from the 97 Educational Benefit Programs in the country provided by the Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System Office or AFPEBSO, and is one of the 19 CAAs benefited by the scholarship program in the First Infantry (Tabak) Division based in Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

“To me education is life, thus I wish to finish my studies”, Varquez said in a local dialect.

Varquez was one of the 19 scholars chosen by the CAFGU Active Auxiliary Educational Benefit System (CAAEBs) selection board

“I’m deeply elated that the selection board has chosen me to be one of the scholars. I can’t almost believe it because we are many, but then I was hand picked despite of being a poor,” Varquez. Exclaimed.

“I will strive to finish my studies,” Varquez said, adding that if he is successful, he will pursue his ambition of becoming a military officer to serve the government and to help his family.

Varquez, now a junior student, taking up Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture at J. H. Cerilles State College, Dumingag and still serving as CAA for 3 years.
