Pagadian City – As DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus believes in the saying that goes, ‘Edukasyon ang solusyon’, this was actively supported by Maj. General Romeo D. Lustestica, Commanding General sa First Infantry (TABAK) Division, Philippine Army during the signing of contract and distribution of checks to the 19 CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) scholars of the AFP’s CAA Educational Benefit System (CAAEBS) held at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an, Labangan , Zamboanga del Sur.

“Education is indeed, a solution to poverty because the more knowledgeable you become, , the better and more chances you have to improve your living conditions,” Lustestica said.

“For us soldiers and CAFGUs, education is the solution to insurgency,’ Lustestica added.

The army chief observed that people who joined an armed struggle were “merely deceived by false ideology”, adding that this is due to their “lack of knowledge”. They did not weigh the consequences and they failed to see the perspective prompting them to automatically join the group of the rebels. But if they use their intellect, their wise judgements widen and they will not be easily deceived to join the armed struggle, Lustestica explained.

“To me, education is very important, In fact, I put a premium on it, he stressed.

He appealed to the scholars to study harder as they are now enjoying the benefits of the CAAEBS, and to work being CAFGUs so that one morning when they wake up, they will become degree holders and professionals.

At the same time, he encouraged the regular troops to study because he believes that if the soldiers are educated, it would be better for their organization. A total of P285,00 worth of checks were distributed to the scholars with Col Alexander D. Dicang, Assistant Div Commander and Chairman of the CAA EBS Selection Board assisted the CAFGUs in the signing of Contract and the distribution of checks.

The CAAEBS was the first time launched by the AFP’s higher headquarters in the 1st Division. (GCC/ PIA9-Pagadian City)
