Pagadian City – President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is set to visit Pagadian City and two municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur tomorrow, October 9, 2009.

The President and her party are expected to arrive at 10:00 am to inaugurate the runway of the P379.46 million Pagadian City Airport Development Project.

She will then ride a chopper to Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur for the following activities: Rice milestone, ceremonial buying of palay from farmers through DA-NFA at Lourmah Elementary School and proceed to San Isidro Central Elementary School for the Briefing on Climate Change and Solid Waste Management.

The floods, landslides and other devastation to life and property brought about by typhoon “Ondoy”, “Pepeng” and “Quedan” confront us with the reality of Global Warming and its ill-effects and challenges each one to do his share.

Relative to this, the Philippine Information Agency, Regional Office IX, in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology and Department of Environment and Natural Resources have conducted a series of fora to make people aware of its dangers and ill-effects.

PIA also enjoined media practitioners to help in the campaign being a very powerful tool and effective medium to disseminate information, thereby generating action from every concerned citizen. They pledged their all-out support to this worthy endeavor.

After the briefing, PGMA will motor to the municipality of Josefina for “PCSO’s Common Tao Day”, where PCSO will provide free medical, dental and eye-check up to indigent families.

The President is also expected to personally meet the 14 barangay captains and distribute medical kits and assistance to patients/beneficiaries.

It’s “all systems go” for the Presidential visit according to the Presidential Management Staff and MARO representatives but as of press time, this is still unofficial and final revisions on the proposed visit are yet to be made. (PIA-RO9)
