PAGADIAN CITY, Jan. 28 (PIA) –The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) acquaints the newly elected barangay officials with their duties and responsibilities under the Local Government Code, in an orientation seminar held at the Liga city convention center..
City local government operations officer Paulina S. Gadiano said the seminar which is slated on January 25-28, is being done in 3 batches where 18 barangays have participated in each batch, Gadiano explained.
Gadiano said the seminar aims to develop the Barangay officials in the field of development management, program implementation, and provision of basic services.
Gadiano said DILG gives an appropriate seminar to barangay officials to “capacitate” them in implementing good governance, thus making them “effective” leaders.
“ The seminar is in support to President Aquino’s commitment in promoting and upholding the principles of good governance in the barangays,” Gadiano said. “It is a great help to them because they will be guided in performing their respective duties and functions. It will help also prevent overlapping of functions,” Gadiano added.
“With this seminar, Gadiano said I am confident that they will be able to effectively serve their constituents,” Gadiano concluded.
Topics discussed were as follows: barangay government structure, national programs, grounds for disciplinary action, duties and responsibilities of barangay officials.” Gadiano pointed out.
The speakers arethe folloing: DILG provincial director Abcede H. Asjali, city budger officer Marina Tual, Sangguniang Panlungsod Secretary Jeremias H. Saldua, and asst. municipal accountant dela Torre. (PIA9-ZDS/Gideon C. Corgue) Last update: 02-02-2011 02:40
