Official candidates for the Miss Pagadian 2008 were presented to the city’s tri-media last May 6 at the Liga City, where members of the press had a closer look on them representing their respective barangays.
Questions from the media tested the aptitude, wit and charm of the candidates as they individually took turns in responding to each question. Miss Pagadian 2005 Maria Allen Ariosa graced the activity. It was learned that the Zamboanga del Sur-Pagadian City Press Club, Inc. will choose a “Darling of the Press”, which will be awarded on the pageant night. Out of 39 screened applicants, 12 hurdled the meticulous selection committee where aside from physical and intelligence, height is one top consideration of at least 5’4” with age requirement of 16 to 23 years old. Pagadian City Tourism Officer Jewelo Barios noted that most of the candidates this year are first-timers in joining beauty pageants, saying: “It will be a ‘fair and square’ competition which makes this year’s search more exciting.” Barios disclosed that they have lined up various activities for the candidates prior to pageant night on June 19. These include tours to the different tourism spots and various radio stations in the city. According to the initial schedule, the Talent and Swimwear Competition will be on June 16 at the Pagadian City Gymnasium with an entrance fee of P 10. Barios also said that they are inviting a celebrity from Manila to grace on the search and pageant night. Prizes at stake for the winners are P10, 000 for the 2nd Runner Up, P15, 000 for the 1st Runner Up, and P25, 000 for the crowned candidate with additional non-cash prizes from various sponsors.

Miss Pagadian 2008 is an activity initiated by the City Government thru the City Tourism Office, aimed at promoting Pagadian City’s tourism and cultural heritage. Likewise, it intends to develop young ladies to become ambassadresses of goodwill for Pagadian and to establish and develop Pagadian City’s identity in its ability in organizing a beauty pageant.
